How To Sew A Mock French Seam

The mock French seam is another easy way to create a clean finish on your seams for light to medium weight fabrics.  It encases the raw edge in the same way that a French seam does, but the sewing technique is slightly different.  The ‘mock’ french seam finish can be used on curves, unlike the traditional French seam.

Step 1:  Pin the RIGHT sides of your fabric together.

Step 2
:  Stitch together using the seam allowance specified on the pattern.

STEP 4
:  Press one side of the seam allowance in half so that the raw edge meets the center of the seam.

STEP 5
:  Press the other side of the seam allowance in half so the raw edge meets the center of the seam.

STEP 6
:  Bring both of the folded edges together and press.

STEP 7:  Edge stitch 1/8″ of from the folded edge.

This is how the finished seam will look below.
